Fear and Loathing in the USA.

Hatred.  Blind, unadulterated hatred.  That's what I see being peddled by so many people today.  And it's tearing our country apart.

I've just been reading an article on Yahoo! News titled "Panic attacks: Voters unload at GOP rallies."  It really underscores to me the most fundamental difference between the two major factions of our county today.  It tells of just plain citizens attending GOP (Republican, for those non-political folks in the audience) rallies and town hall meetings who express more hatred and misinformation than I've ever seen in presidential politics before.

How can we be so blind as to not see that we are tearing ourselves apart?  How is it that these people who are screaming that Obama is a terrorist aren't being vocally and repeatedly repudiated by the McCain campaign?  How is it possible that we've come to the point where hatred is the response to that which we don't agree with.

I'm sad for my country.  I fear the hope that Sen. Obama has engendered in me has turned to fear and loathing in far too many of my countrymen.

It is my prayer that the McCain campaign will, very soon, start repudiating the divisive smears and blatant lies.  I pray that he will start standing up to the hatemongers like Limbaugh and Hannity and Coulter.

I don't think my prayers will be answered soon.
