On December 1st, 2004 I weighed in at a hefty 260 pounds.  At 5' 6" tall, and nearing 40 years old, I knew it was time to do something about it.  A bit of reading, and talking to folks lead me to the "South Beach" diet.  Today I'm still a big fan of the "South Beach" plan.

Believe me -- I was skeptical at first.  After reading about all the fad diets, crazy diets, and miracle diets, I was expecting this one to be just the same.  What convinced me to try it was something odd.  The doctor who developed this plan wasn't out to get his patients to loose weight.  He was more interested in the health of their heart and about the precursors to diabetes.  For some reason, knowing that this doctor wasn't just trying to jump on the vanity band-wagon from the beginning -- that he had more serious and specific health concerns -- somehow gave him, in my mind, more credibility.  And it worked.  I eat better, am exercising on a regular basis, and am feeling completely different.

Give it a try -- it works.
