Drupal

The impetus for this site stemmed from an assignment at the college I work for.  We were looking into implementing a Content Management System, and I was tasked with evaluating open source options.  That's when I stumbled on Drupal -- the software that powers this site.  Since it seemed to fit the bill for the needs of the college, I decided to try learning it for myself. So, what started out as just a learning site has become my new spot on the web.

I'm a real fan of the Open Source movement.  This entire site is powered by freely available, open-source software.  The host computer is running Linux with the Apache web-server software.  Drupal, which is open-source, is written in PHP, and has a MySQL database for storing content.  The Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP (or LAMP) architecture is extremely stable, very efficient, easy to work with, super flexible, and best of all -- there are no licensing costs!
